Tasting Room News with Brian & Katie

Tasting Room Managers in Training

Seven Birches has recently promoted 2 new managers in training to our growing team.  Katie Masters and Brian Walters have both been with us since last Summer and have proven to be energizing additions to our tasting rooms.  You’ll find Brian managing our newest tasting room, Rhythm Cider Studio, and Katie, at our flagship location inside the RiverWalk Resort.

Katie Masters, Tasting Room ManagerKatie Masters is excited for our rollout of new summer wine and cider varieties! When not at the winery, Katie works at the front desk at the resort and is gearing up to take a formal wine certification course through WSET and is looking forward to diving into the wine industry as a professional.

Brian Walters, Tasting Room ManagerBrian Walters is from Southern Vermont, coming to us with a background in the restaurant industry.  Brian is excited to be a part of SB as it expands and grows, and to be playing a role in building our team .  His favorite wine here is our Syrah. Outside the winery, Brian is a former junior hockey player and enjoys getting out on the ice as much as he can.

Please join us in congratulating them on their entrance into the management training program and wish them the best of luck for the anticipated busy summer season!

South American/African Spring Harvest

We have turned our attention to the spring harvest from both Chile and South Africa.  We received the Pinotage (red grape variety) which we are currently fermenting and pressing into what will eventually be our “Harmony” wine.  Earlier this week we also received and crushed our grapes from Chile and some other juice from South Africa.  So… 2 years from now, you’ll be enjoying some of your old favorites:

  • “Gusto” (Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • “Classique” (Cabernet Franc)
  • “Karma” (Carmenere)
  • “Shadow” (Merlot)
  • “Curico” (Malbec)
  • *New* Chenin Blanc (South African White)
  • “Alto” (Pinot Grigio)
  • “Solstice White” (Chardonnay)

Vineyard Update

We’ve just completed the planting of 166 additional vines in the RiverWalk Vineyard.  All 166 of these are the cold-hardy, hybrid variety known as “Prairie Star.”  The trellis was built and the vines planted on May 6th.   The first block of vines, now in their 3rd growing season, are expected to produce their first fruit, which we will harvest this fall.  The second block of vines look like they survived their first hard winter and are ready to grow.  We expect bud-break (when the small buds first sprout their leaves) any day now.  We are so very excited to have our first real vintage this year!
